Analysis of the main geo-political developments in the Middle East and South Asia during and after the Cold War , including contemporary developments in Israel, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan. The problems associated with combating international terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and other major security challenges in these areas that have an impact on Australia’s and international security will also be examined. Students will gain an understanding of the growing strategic significance of the Middle East and South Asia in the twenty-first century as well as practical experience in regional analysis and international crisis assessment. -- Course Website
